bilingual dreams

For most of my life, I've slept very soundly so that I do not remember any dreams.  But, this past week, I've remembered quite a few.  And, quite to my surprise many of them have been bilingual.  I now know I sometimes dream in Chinese. . . .isn't that weird!?!

Also, yesterday, I caught myself talking to myself in Chinese.  It was a totally unconscious thing.  So, what does this mean?

  1. It means you are technically fluent in the language. I have a friend who speaks about five languages...and he often dreams in other languages. And when I was in college, a Saudi Arabian student came to school one day, so excited, because he had his first dream in English.
I couldn't imagine dreaming in another language!!
Did you have any formal training in this language, or was your learning it a product of full immersion in the language? I'm just curious. :D

  2. Wow, well done!! You have really grabbed onto that language. :) Maybe you can semi-qualify as an 'egg'...white on the outside, yellow on the inside. lol

  3. It does mean you are totally fluent in Chinese. Back in school, I took years and years of French and sometimes out of the blue, I'll still talk to myself in French. And it's been 10 years since I took a class. I think it's neat.
I wish I could speak Chinese. My paternal grandfather was Chinese and I'd love to learn more but can't without the language. I'd love to learn. Was it hard to learn?
